On this page
  1. Add a journal entry
  2. Read the ledger

Add a journal entry

  1. Open Journal Entries and click New Journal Entry.
  2. Add the lines: account, debit or credit, and amount. Debits must equal credits.
  3. Write a narration explaining the entry.
  4. Save as draft, or post it.

Note: Drafts don't affect balances until they are posted. Journal Entries also lists postings made by bills and vouchers, so you can trace any balance back to its source.

Read the ledger

  1. Open Ledger.
  2. Choose the account and the period. Optionally narrow it to one customer or party.
  3. Every posting is listed with the running balance. Click an entry to open its source document.
